Gothic Girl Dolls

Dollar General sells a line of Monster High ripoffs called "Gothic Girl", and I've really taken a liking to them. They're a lot of fun to customize.

Materials: acetone (found in the nail care section), scraps of cloth, a pearl-topped pushpin, super cheap makeup, calligraphy pen (Pilot Precise pens work, too), white out, dental floss

The acetone was used to wipe off her old face paint. There are a lot of tutorials about how to give dolls a "face-up" but all I did was draw the new eyes with pencil, go over it with a black calligraphy pen, use some acrylic paint on her eyes, then, after the pain dried, "sealed" it with two coats of clear nail polish.

For her dress, I kinda just cut out the "bib" part, cut a trapezoid-like thing for the apron, then sewed both pieces to a long strip of white. (*Protip- try sewing with dental floss; it's curiously strong.)

The black dress came from an earlier edition of the Gothic Girl line. It also came with cute striped arm warmers (or were they leg warmers?) one of which I cut in half to make her sleeves.

I really didn't do a good job on those "fangs", but it's ok because they're fake (she's not really a vampire; don't tell 'er I told you).

The bow was super easy- a rectangle of cloth, pinched in the center, then a pushpin with a pearl top pushed into the center. You might want to start it off a bit longer than you intend because you can always snip the excess.

Her hair is a result at attempting to black out her red streaks, but the stuff I used (think it was a marker or shoe polish?) only made the red turn dark. For the style, I just pulled two pieces beside each ear and clipped them in the back  Her home cut bangs, refuse to say down for anything, but I don't want to resort to using superglue.

She doesn't have a name yet, but she's kinda got a personality. She's the "youngest" of my Gothic Girl dolls and she's always carrying around that skeleton doll of her's, Professor Clavicle. Hope we can find a suitable name soon. Something whimsically dark. It'll hit me someday.

Update: She finally told me her name- it's Nyx.
